Please tell me I’m not the only one who boxes myself into being one sort of way and then feels wrong/bad/scared to be anything other than what I’ve pigeonholed myself into and begins to resent myself and what I’ve become and everything about my life and then really wants to throw the entire thing away and start over as a different version of myself? No? Just me? Damn. 😔✌️

Ok so maybe I’m being dramatic and I know I’m probably not actually alone BUT I have spent this weekend considering deleting this account and crawling inside a cave and becoming a cave person who lives in a cave. (Honorable mentions: running away to a cottage in the woods, running away to Italy to drink soda and eat gelato, becoming the first blind fighter pilot, going feral and becoming a cryptid.)

As I lay in bed, staring at the ceiling, absorbed in rumination and resentment and regret, I thought to myself “Elisabeth Grace Cox, get your sh*t together. It doesn’t matter how far you run, you’ll always find yourself there with you. Don’t you remember the episode of Buffy where she went away and became a waitress? The vampires still managed to find her! Your vampires will always find you.”

As I mulled that over, mad at myself for being so wise and ruining my daydreams… nothing happened. I didn’t immediately jump out of bed, run to my computer and write this post. I didn’t suddenly feel energized and invigorated. I actually took a nap. And when I woke up, I was still depressed. And as I’m writing this, I’m still depressed. This isn’t some grand recovery story where I talk myself out of being mentally ill. This is a reality check. My vampires will always find me.

BUT I can fight them. Maybe not with a wooden stake, but definitely with things like rest, cutting myself some slack, and giving myself permission to come out of the box I put myself in. That box? Not comfortable tbh. I am so big and multifaceted and I have so many loves and passions and interests that y’all don’t even KNOW! All because I, for some reason, decided they didn’t fit my “aesthetic” and therefore I couldn’t share them. To heck with that! This is my life, and I appreciate you being along for the ride!

If you haven’t been able to tell, I left Charlotte for the NC foothills (miss you, Queen City 🌃🥲). Going from urban/suburban to rural has been quite the adjustment, but hey, my new neighbors are cute 🥰🤪 🐮

We’re also getting chickens soon probably 🐣 and maybe goats?? Like hello?? What is even happening 😂 As much as I miss being less than 5 minutes from anything I need, it’s pretty chill out here.

Idk if y’all ready for this influencer tea/reality check (Realitea check?)

The last time I made ACTUAL money as an influencer was…. Months ago. A steady income as a creator evades me! Passive or active, the only money I’ve made from this account is through advocacy work. Which like, hell yeah. But also, at almost 3? Years into being a creator- I really thought I’d be further along.

Truth be told, I don’t put in as much energy, time, etc into it as some people do. I don’t have the energy and time and etc! I don’t have the income to do big hauls often, reels exhaust me for some reason, finding time between doctor appointments as a chronically ill babe who can barely find time for all the doctors appointments… active income doesn’t come easily.

And ok, I lied in the reel. I do know what passive income means! But in order to have passive income, you do still have to put in work. Ebooks don’t write themselves. Affiliate links don’t do much if you don’t post them. This whole thing is not as easy, relaxed, or profitable as if seems!

I’m a creator because I like it! I enjoy it! I like knowing that I’m helping folks normalize and bring awareness to disabilities, and in turn aiding in the end of ableism. I love being unapologetically fat on main, and teaching folk’s acceptance and to unlearn their fatphobia! I love being an advocate for myself and being able to boost the voices of others. I love that I have a place to express myself, share my loooove for fashion, be silly goofy, and build a community.
